RWBY: Ice Queendom offered an early premiere with the three first episodes available on Crunchyroll and Rooster Teeth first. These episodes were a more fleshed-out recap of the original Rooster Teeth series, while the remaining episode will include new content. But how many episodes will RWBY: Ice Queendom have?

RWBY: Ice Queendom is going to have a total of 12 episodes. This was confirmed by Rooster Teeth Head of Licencing and Consumer Products, Geoff Yetter in a journal entry found on the official Rooster Teeth website.

In this journal entry, Yetter provided the scheduled timeline of the fantasy anime, noting that after the early release of the first three episodes together, each of these three episodes will premier separately every Sunday, until later in July when unseen-before episodes will start coming out.

Regarding the number of episodes, Yetter reminded Rooster Teeth fans that "this limited series is 12 episodes long, meaning the series finale will air on September 12."

The above is also confirmed on the RWBY: Ice Queendom entry on the anime database MyAnimeList.

So far, the Rooster Teeth team and the Japanese creators of RWBY: Ice Queendom have not announced any plans to prolong the series.

While this could, of course, change if the Studio Shaft anime was to become a hit, there are indications that 12 episodes might be all we are getting of this particular project.

The wording of Geoff Yetter's post is telling here; rather than saying that this RWBY season will have 12 episodes, Yetter referred to the anime as a "limited series" and went on to give a release date for the "series finale" rather than "the season finale."

The above leads us to believe that there are no further plans for RWBY: Ice Queendom. RWBY: Ice Queendom isn't a reboot, but it was built to recap some of the main first events and take us on a new side adventure.

Rooster Teeth are preparing RWBY Volume 9, and the original animated series is going to resume in early 2023.

Remember that RWBY: Ice Queendom came out during an unusually long gap between RWBY Volumes, meaning that it would likely not be as popular at any other time.

Fans who have waited for Volume 9 for so long are now more likely to pick up Ice Queendom in hopes of hints or just a dose of RWBY, without this meaning that RWBY: Ice Queendom isn't great in its own right.

That RWBY: Ice Queendom is going to end at 12 episodes isn't entirely surprising, as many anime have 12 episodes. Hopefully, the show will pave the way for the release of a very exciting RWBY Season 9!
