House of the Dragon Star Teases Pivotal Story Ahead for House Lannister

The HBO series House of the Dragon centers on the House Targaryen, and their famed civil war named Dance of the Dragons. The latest prequel is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, when the last of the Targaryen blood conquered for the Iron Throne.

Throughout Episodes 1 and 2, House of the Dragon extensively focused on House Targaryen while slowly introducing several characters from notable Game of Thrones houses, such as the Hightowers and the Velaryons. Amazingly, Episode 3 introduced two characters with a very significant last name, Jason and Tyland Lannister – both played Jefferson Hall. Considering the massive fandom of House Lannister throughout the eight-season run of Game of Thrones, meeting their ancestors was undoubtedly embraced with huge enthusiasm.

However, it's hard not to wonder if the Lannisters would also play a prominent part in the prequel House of the Dragon. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Jason and Tyland actor Jefferson Hall teased that the Lannisters might play a small part in the beginning, but their influence on the story will grow bigger as the story continues. See Hall's full quote below:

“This is a story about the Targaryens. And the Lannisters do play a strong role in it, but not from the offset. [Fans need] to be patient as far as that’s concerned. Because they are introduced to the story… and they are supporting that story. That’s not to say they don’t have a very strong, pivotal role within it as time goes on, but to begin with, for sure, it’s gonna be a waiting game.”

Meeting Jason Lannister in Episode 3 probably brought nostalgia to the fans as he completely demonstrates an over-the-top brashness, a distinguishing trait of a Lannister. Although it was just a brief introduction to the Lannister twins, it was already promising enough to think about what role could they play in the whole House of the Dragon narrative.

Nonetheless, fans must remember that House of the Dragon solely focuses on House Targaryen and the turmoil that would be unraveled as the series progresses, and it's unlikely that House Lannister would be the main antagonist in the prequel, especially with the constant foreshadowing that Alicent – from House Hightower would be the next Cersei.

House of the Dragon is available to stream on HBO Max.
