House of the Dragon Showrunner Weighs in on The Rings of Power Rivalry

There is little doubt that there was going to be some competition between House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. After all, the two major fantasy shows have a lot in common and both are currently huge hits. But should these shows compete in the first place? House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal claims that fans should just be grateful that the shows are out in the first place.

Ryan Condal recently spoke to The Wrap where he admitted that he has always been a huge fan of J.R.R. Tolkien's books.

"I read Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion and The Hobbit multiple times growing up, I saw the Peter Jackson movies multiple times in the theaters," Condal said. "I love all that stuff, I love high fantasy, and frankly I want to live in a world where there's room for all of these things to exist if they're good. I think the need for more well-mad expensive science-fiction/fantasy on television is what all of us nerds want."

Condal also pointed out that there shouldn't be any rivalry between House of the Dragon and The Rings of Power considering that fans can easily watch both shows.

"I don't think that somebody watching Rings of Power means they're not watching House of the Dragon, I don't see it that way," Condal said. "I see one feeds the other, and I think the more good quality genre entertainment on television, the more it's gonna draw in the general public who might not be so predisposed to watching this."

We're loving what Condal has to say about the shows and we certainly enjoy watching both. With that in mind, it's great to have two great shows inspired by fantasy literature.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power drops a new episode on Amazon Prime this Friday. House of the Dragon's ninth episode will premiere on HBO on Sunday.
