House of the Dragon Season 2 to Shift Its Focus on the Targaryen Kids

After the death of Lucerys (Elliot Grihault) in the first season finale, House of the Dragon Season 2 will be "about the kids."

The civil war is now heating up and even getting more intense with the surprising death of Lucerys and his dragon, Arrax, after being devoured by Aemond's (Ewan Mitchell) gigantic dragon, Vhagar. As this brought attention to the Targaryen kids, House of the Dragon Season 2 will shift its focus on Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Alicent Hightower's (Olivia Cooke) children.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Plotline

In an interview with IndieWire, showrunner Ryan Condal, who replaced Miguel Sapochnik following his departure, revealed that the second season would be about the kids after becoming young adults and having their own dragons.

He said,

“This second season is about the kids that we only saw for a couple of episodes at the end of the series that are now grown up to be young adults who have dragons, who are of riding and fighting age, who have opinions of their own and a desire to get out there and defend the family claim.”

He also discussed how many seasons the show might have.

Condal continued,

“It’s more than two. That’s part of the discussion that we’re having. Where do you appropriately end the series in a way that doesn’t feel clipped but also doesn’t feel dragged out?”

House of the Dragon Season 2's Focus

The first season mostly focused on the developing conflict between Rhaenyra and Alicent.

They were once closed as kids until they fell out in adulthood following Alicent's romance with Rhaenyra's father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine).

Multiple time jumps happened, and their kids were eventually introduced, with the show slightly shifting its focus to the new generation of Targaryens.

The two mothers' feud is passed on to their children, like when Luke slashes Aemond's eye. Even their dragons fight.

As they're now in their battling age and are fighting in the war of succession, they're all willing to put their lives on the line to defend their families' claim to the throne.

By the looks of it, Lucerys will not only be the casualty in the upcoming civil war.
