House of the Dragon Episode 8 has proven yet again that King Viserys I Targaryen is a good man who truly loves his daughter. In The Lord of the Tides, the weakened king summoned all his strength to defend his daughter during an important event and the effort has convinced viewers that he deserves the Father of the Year award!
In House of the Dragon Episode 8, it is revealed that Corlys Velaryon has suffered a severe injury and it is feared that he will die without officially naming an heir to Driftmark. Princess Rhaenys Velaryon claims that Lucerys Velaryon is the rightful heir but the Sea Snake's brother Vaemond Velaryon insists that Rhaenyra Targaryen's son should not inherit Driftwood.
Vaemond petitions to be named the next Lord of the Tides, forcing Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen to return to King's Landing to defend Lucerys' claim. Upon returning, they are reunited with King Viserys I Targaryen is also very ill and close to dying. Despite this, Rhaenyra realizes that Alicent and Otto Hightower will side with Vaemond and begs her father to help her defend Lucerys' claim as the next Lord of the Tides.
On the day of the petition, it becomes clear that the Hightowers are going to take Vaemond's side. However, Viserys suddenly appears to preside over the petition and upon Rhaenys' advice, declares Lucerys as the heir to Driftmark.
Not surprisingly, fans were deeply moved by Viserys' effort to continue defending his daughter. Needless to say, people are praising the king and actor Paddy Considine for being an amazing father and actor, respectively.
Although we loved what Viserys did for Rhaenyra and her sons, it will be the last time we will see him as a loyal dad. House of the Dragon Episode 8 concluded with the king finally succumbing to his illness and reuniting with his beloved Aemma in the end.
The latest episode of House of the Dragon is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 9 is titled The Green Council and is set to premiere on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
