House of the Dragon Executive Producer Exits Ahead of Season 2

House of the Dragon has just lost another important part of its creative team. Executive producer Jocelyn Diaz has just been confirmed to leave the Game of Thrones prequel series and will not be returning for its second season.

Deadline reports that Jocelyn Diaz is leaving House of the Dragon as one of the executive producers. According to the report, sources revealed that she had a one-year deal with the series which had an option for a second. However, the option to renew her contract is not being picked up.

Diaz isn't the first executive producer to leave House of the Dragon after it was renewed for a second season. It was previously confirmed that co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik is exiting the series and will not be back for Season 2. In addition to that, fellow executive producer Ron Schmidt quietly stepped down from the show.

So who will be taking care of House of the Dragon Season 2? It looks like Ryan Condal will now serve as the solo showrunner of the Game of Thrones prequel. His team of executive producers will still include Sara Hess, Vince Gerardis, and Fire and Blood author George R.R. Martin.

It's interesting to see that some executive producers are already leaving House of the Dragon but this isn't a sign that things are going downhill. Instead, it looks like Ryan Condal is firming up his team with producers who have writing credits (Diaz was a non-writing EP).

It will still be a long wait for the second season. In the meantime, things are heating up in House of the Dragon as the series got yet another major time leap that introduced Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower.

The latest episode of House of the Dragon is now available on HBO Max. House of the Dragon Episode 7 is titled Driftmark and is set to premiere on HBO on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 9:00 PM EST.
