Here's Why The Massive Battle Of Winterfell Will Take Place Early In Game Of Thrones Season 8

We already know that there's a huge battle happening in Game of Thrones Season 8. After all, the cast and crew of the HBO series simply couldn't stop talking about it, and it sounds like the fight is set to be the biggest battle sequence in cinematic history. But why is it happening so early in the final season?

There have been speculations that the big battle, which is being dubbed the Battle of Winterfell, will take place in the third episode of Game of Thrones Season 8.

The theories started when it was revealed that Episode 3 will be 82 minutes long, making it the longest episode in the final season. Yes, it is two minutes longer than the last two episodes, which both clock in at 80 minutes. In addition to that, the third episode was directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who is known for his work on the battle-heavy Hardhome and Battle of the Bastards.

So why is it happening so soon? According to CinemaBlend, it makes sense considering that the White Walker Army probably won't be wasting any time in marching straight to Winterfell this April. By then, Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen probably already have their own armies ready for the fight.

Unfortunately, this could result in the deaths of several characters and even the possible destruction of Winterfell itself. However, it should set things up for the second battle in the final season, which could happen in Episode 5 (again, directed by Sapochnik).

With only six episodes left, there is little doubt that Game of Thrones Season 8 will not waste time getting into the action. Hopefully, we'll all be ready for whatever will happen to the Seven Kingdoms next month.

Game of Thrones Season 8 premieres on HBO on April 14.
