Here’s What Happened Right After Luke Learned Darth Vader Was His Father

It looks like Marvel Comics has just revealed what happened to right after Luke lost his hand to Vader in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.

Marvel Comics just recently released the official preview of the opening pages for the relaunch of the flagship series of the Star Wars franchise (via ComicBook.com) , and in the first few pages for Star Wars #1 we get to see what happened to Luke Skywalker right after his big confrontation with his father in Cloud City.

Luke still seems to be struggling with the revelation that Darth Vader is actually is his father. The fact that he lost his hand doesn't seem to be helping either. Meanwhile, Lando and Chewie are fighting over what to do. Han Solo had just been frozen in carbonite, and Chewie is desperate to save his friend.

Here's the official description of the brand new series by Charles Soule featuring art by Jesus Saiz and covers by RB Silva.

"In the wake of the events following The Empire Strikes Back, it is a dark time for the heroes of the Rebellion. The Rebel fleet…scattered following a disastrous defeat at the Battle of Hoth. Han Solo…lost to the bounty hunter, Boba Fett, after being frozen in carbonite. And after being lured into a trap on Cloud City and bested in a vicious lightsaber duel against the evil Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker…learned the horrible truth about his past. Vader did not kill Luke's father Anakin--Vader is Luke's father! Now, after narrowly escaping the dark lord's clutches, and wounded and reeling from the revelation, Luke, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, the Wookiee Chewbacca and the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 must fight their way back to the Rebel Alliance—for the fate of the entire galaxy is at stake! After so many losses is victory still possible? But, what Leia, Luke and their ragtag band of freedom fighters do not realize is that they have only traded one Imperial trap for another! Enter the cunning and vengeful Imperial Commander Zahra, at the helm of the Tarkin's Will!"

The comic certainly starts out in a dark place, and Luke, Leia, Lando, Chewie and C-3PO seem to be struggling in the preview. While we all know that Leia eventually rescues Han in Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi, we don't really see the events before it. Now, thanks to Star Wars #! it seems like fans are going to get the opportunity to see how exactly the team comes up with the plan to rescue Han from Jabba the Hutt.

Star Wars #1 is set to debut in comic shops and digital platforms on January 1, 2020. Lucasfilm's latest film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is screening in cinemas.
