Marvel Studios may not have released the official Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer, but the leaked footage is all over the internet. Naturally, fans have been poring over every single detail.
Though the teaser only gave fans a small look at the Devourer of Worlds, Galactus, it seems like his presence in the film will be inspired by one of the most unlikely adaptations—Fortnite.
How Fortnite Inspired Galactus in Fantastic Four: First Steps
Though it’s too early for the studio to show fans an actual clip of Galactus wreaking havoc in the movie, @F4Update on Twitter has shared that Marvel head Kevin Feige showed a clip of Galactus from Fortnite to the Fantastic Four crew to give them inspiration for how he could look in the film.
Here’s how Galactus appears in the game:
Interestingly enough, the image of a giant Galactus looming over the horizon looks similar to that of a celestial (specifically Arishem) in one of the more divisive entries of the MCU—Eternals. Here’s the clip:
Seeing that Galactus himself is a celestial, it wouldn’t be surprising that their appearance in Eternals was going to have some influence on how Galactus makes his MCU debut.
How Galactus has been Adapted Before
Galactus has appeared in several animated iterations of the Fantastic Four, as well as video games like Marvel Ultimate Alliance. However, his live-action debut was way back in 2007 in Fox’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
Though that film’s Surfer still gets praise to this day, the same can’t be said for Galactus. Though Galactus is infamously a giant purple man in a helmet, it was deemed too cartoonish for the studio, so they decided to go the more realistic route and turn him into a giant cloud.
Admittedly, the movie does try to make nods to the original look, with the shadow of Galactus on Saturn looking like his helmet for a brief moment, but ultimately, he was just a giant cloud with some fire at the core.
MCU’s Galactus
With the establishment of the celestials, Marvel now has the perfect stage to introduce the Devourer of Worlds. Not much is known about this new version yet, but it’s said that he is the only one of his kind in the multiverse—meaning he has no variants.
Immediately, some fans thought that this was contradicted by the fact that the cloud Galactus exists and Rise of the Silver Surfer was canonized in Deadpool and Wolverine via Chris Evans’ Johnny Storm; but it can be easily explained that the cloud Galactus wasn’t killed and just evolved into this celestial version—now it wants revenge on all the Fantastic Fours across the multiverse.
Then again, that’s just fan speculation, but at this point, the MCU is already known to have a plothole here and there. Overlooking cloud Galactus isn’t the worst sin the MCU has committed.
Galactus arrives in Fantastic Four: First Steps which debuts in theaters on July 25, 2025.
