The moment Charlie Morningstar alerted her comrades that her dad aka the King of Hell would be coming over, Niffty highly expected that Lucifer would be the scariest ruler she'll ever meet.

But then the camera transitioned to Lucifer fixing his "latest creation" in his home, "the magic-tastical backflipping rubber duck that spits fire!"

The episode unveils two things: Lucifer is a massive hoarder of rubber ducks and these ducks seem to be more than just an obsession for him.

Well, according to the original story, when Charlie was still young, Lucifer wanted to find a way to entertain her.

So, he built an amusement park called Lu Lu World, which was dedicated to his name and showcased his version of how he ended up in Hell while being a special place for his little girl.

Unfortunately, when he and Lilith split up, he went into isolation and locked down the amusement park.

While Charlie was off to fulfill her mother's dream of redeeming the sinners in her Hazbin Hotel, Lucifer found entertainment in his overgrown duck collection.

As soon as Lucifer had gone excited to come over for the first time to her daughter's Hazbin Hotel, he poked fun at one of the ducks to say, "Take that, Depression!" as a symbol to mean that the rubber ducks were counted as his company.

Considering that Lucifer had gone into isolation and that he couldn't do anything with Heaven's extermination of sinners, he had seemingly lost hope in saving his people.

While the series has yet to officially mention what these ducks were, there's an origins story behind the King of Hell's obsession.

In the original lore, the ducks were a "manifestation of the souls of every single freak dwelling in his circus."

The ducks represented the souls of the damned and were used to build his throne upon their souls.

Because to Lucifer, human souls were as "significant as a child's toy", something he could "toss in his firepit" and "destroy instantly."
