It has been several years since the unfortunate passing of Alan Rickman yet we continue to hear amazing new stories about what a great man he is. The latest tribute comes from Rickman's Harry Potter co-star Timothy Spall who shared a wonderful story about how the late actor was always kind to everyone.
Alan Rickman may have been known for playing a lot of villains in his long career but his true personality is far from his movie roles. Timothy Spall knows all about this, having shared the screen with Rickman in the Harry Potter movies.
Spall, who played Peter Pettigrew in the Harry Potter movies, recently spoke to Looper about how Alan Rickman was so different from the characters he played.
"The one thing I can tell you about Alan, considering that, apart from the tragedy of his loss and losing him at such a young age, really, in this day and age, he practically played so many sinister, rather formidable, terrifying characters — not always, but [he] was brilliant at it. The man himself was so different, [he] was so warm, was so kind and genuinely kind," Spall said. He then confirmed that Rickman was always surrounded by children who adored him.
"On Harry Potter, even when he wasn't working, there wasn't a day when he wasn't coming in with a group of kids. There [were] always phone calls, 'Can I come on the set?' He'd be bringing friends' children to show them around," Spall said.
Interestingly, the Enchanted actor stated that his own family were smitten with Rickman.
"On one occasion, he met my mother-in-law, who was with my wife. He wasn't used to meeting really anybody, apart from me, and he was absolutely charming with her. He was a really charming, very witty, and deeply intelligent and funny man, and also very, very bright — and actually one of the best actors of his time, really. We've had the privilege of having him and the tragedy of losing him. It was great to work with him," Spall said.
It's truly sad that we lost Alan Rickman too soon but we are looking forward to hearing stories of his greatness in the future.
