Harry Potter Actor Claims That Publicists Asked Her to Lie About the Racist Attacks

Harry Potter actress Katie Leung recently has an interview where she recalled the racist attacks she endured when she played the role of Cho Chang in the blockbuster film of the franchise. Leung said she didn't speak about the attacks because of what she was told.

Leung was born in Scotland but of Chinese descent. She joined the Harry Potter cast when she was 16. She appeared in all of the other films after that. She became a breakout star but the actress admitted that she entered the industry with very little training in what she has to do. She only followed what the publicists told her to do.
Leung spoke about the racist attacks she endured in an interview on the podcast Chinese Chippy Girl. Although having to face the racist attacks is already problematic in itself, the actress said that when she told the publicists about it, she was told to deny it.

The actress tried "Googling" herself at one point. She was on a website dedicated to a certain kind of Harry Potter fandom. Leung said that she remembered seeing racists comments about her.

After seeing those comments and websites, she approached the publicists. The actress said that the publicists told her that they haven't seen those websites that people are talking about. She was also told that if she was asked about it, she should say it's not true and it's not happening. The actress said, "I remember them saying to me, ‘Oh, look Katie, we haven't seen these, these websites that people are talking about. And you know, if you get asked that just say it's, say it's not true, say it's not happening."

As of the moment, Warner Bros haven't responded to the issue.
