Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Actor Opens Up About Feeling 'Trapped' on MCU Involvement

Will Poulter recently made his MCU debut as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Considering the character's stature in the Marvel lore and as teased by the end of the film, he is presumably going to be a significant player in the franchise moving forward.

There's no doubt that joining a massive franchise like the MCU can be daunting for actors since they are tied to a long-term commitment as they are expected to appear in more projects in the future.

In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz (via The Direct), Poulter was asked whether he felt any hesitation about joining the MCU and was concerned about the idea of feeling "trapped" on being involved in the franchise for a long time.

"No, I think it’s a fair question. The obvious privilege and excitement of the whole ordeal notwithstanding," he first said.

"I mean, your first, I think, instinct genuinely is feeling kind of very, very lucky to be welcomed into a world that is characterized by such a committed and passionate fan base that is also predicated on the contributions of so many incredibly talented people."

The Emmy-nominated actor went on to admit that he felt pressure before officially signing on the project.

He continued, "And so, to be kind of welcomed into a space that has such a kind of amazing legacy attached to it and such an incredible history of success, that’s super lovely and all wonderful things. I think with that, there’s also a certain amount of pressure, right?"

Fortunately, Poulter had a great experience playing the role and shooting the movie which would subside his initial concerns.

"And I think there is also a thought that like, as good as all those things are, and like this analogy is like worryingly on the nose for Adam Warlock, but like you know, there is elements of like, ‘Is it a golden cage?’ You know I mean? It’s gold, it’s very pretty, but is it stopping you from doing other things," he added.

"And I think ultimately, the whole experience of being involved in Marvel, at least to date, and being involved in this movie has only really kind of translated to a positive experience for me and just really, really wonderful opportunities off the back of it."

The Adam Warlock actor ended his response with an assurance that he didn't feel "trapped" about joining the franchise.

He concluded, "So, I’m immensely grateful and that sense that, ‘Oh God, I’m trapped by Marvel,’ it’s just not really... that hasn’t been my experience."

It is great to hear that Poulter had a great experience in his first MCU movie and it sounds like we can count on him to appear in more projects in the future if ever Marvel Studios calls him in the future.

So far, there is no confirmation yet about Poulter's next MCU project or whether he will return in a potential fourth Guardians of the Galaxy movie. We should be hearing some updates about it in the near future.
