DC Writer Wants Captain Marvel On Star Wars To Piss Off 'Manbabies'; Twitter Users React

A few months ago, Captain Marvel star Brie Larson shared her interest to be a Jedi in the Star Wars universe. Lucasfilm thinks it is a good idea and so does comics writer Ron Marz, but for an interesting reason.

In a recent tweet, he wrote that he hopes for Captain Marvel to appear in the Rian Johnson Star Wars trilogy, so he can "watch some manbaby heads REALLY explode."

It didn't take long for negative responses to come in, which prompted Marz to double down, tweeting out, "Shoutout to the dudes (always dudes) showing up in my mentions to lecture me about why they don't like Captain Marvel and/or Rian Johnson. That tweet was for you."

Marz is known for his work on Green Lantern and Silver Surfer titles. Other popular projects of his include crossover titles like Batman/Aliens and DC vs. Marvel.

During his successful Green Lantern run in the 2000s, Marz found himself in hot water for a storyline where hero Kyle Rayner, a character he created, comes home to find his girlfriend murdered, her corpse stuffed in a refrigerator. This inspired writer Gail Simone to create a list of female comic book characters who were killed, maimed, or depowered to move the male character's story forward. This is something that some Twitter users reminded him about in response to his tweets.

"Manbaby" is a term that is thrown around a lot during discussions about Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a divisive sequel to The Force Awakens written and directed by Johnson. He first used the term to describe trolls who drove Rose Tico actress Kelly Marie Tran out of Instagram. A lot of fans vocal about their criticism of the film online are accused of being one.

Captain Marvel, on the other hand, has been the subject of controversies due to what some think is social justice pandering. Larson herself is a strong advocate for female representation and diversity in film, which apparently attracted "manbabies" as well.

One Twitter user responded to Marz by saying it is unfair for people to be "demonized" for not liking Captain Marvel and wishing the film and character were better. However, Marz clarified that he was only referring to the manbabies who act like manbabies.

Some responded in agreement with Marz. They either want to see what they expect to be an outrageous reaction from these critics or just love the idea of Larson or her Marvel character in the Star Wars universe. Others even poked fun of the idea that she was in the galaxy far, far away all along during her absense in Avengers: Endgame.

There are three new Star Wars films set to be released every other year starting 2022. Johnson's trilogy, however, has reportedly been cancelled. Larson, on the other hand, is set to be the new face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
