James Gunn is widely known for his distinctive take on superhero movies. Gunn has written and directed The Suicide Squad and instantly followed by a standalone spinoff, Peacemaker. Recently, Gunn has just announced that a second season for Peacemaker is definitely happening and another Suicide Squad spinoff is in the works. But as of now, Gunn will be working for Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3.

Now that Gunn is back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans cant wait to have a glimpse of what the third film of the GOTG franchise will be all about. According to him, the upcoming threequel will be ‘more darker than the previous ones’ which Gunn also wrote. The third film is also reported to be the ‘endgame’ for the intergalactic team.

In an interview with Variety, Gunn discussed how working with Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad influenced the MCU’s threequel of the GOTG film. The director said that the time spent on the two DC projects helped him ‘balance his life a little bit better.’

“I had as much fun as you could have during COVID making Peacemaker, and so I’m trying to apply that more to Vol. 3. In all truth, the first two Guardians, I love the cast and crew, but they were really difficult to make. And a lot of that was self-imposed difficulty by me. I realized after Vol. 2 that I couldn’t continue to live a life if I made everything I did like Vol. 2, which I just killed myself over, unnecessarily. I needed to balance my life a little bit better. And so I’ve been applying that to Vol. 3."

The filmmaker still continues to learn from his time in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker and still allows himself to experience the fun of making films all over again. However, in the MCU film, Gunn is sticking to his approach and to what he did with his previous DC projects.

“I think The Suicide Squad also has informed Vol. 3 a lot in terms of how we’re shooting it. There’s a different type of groundedness, I think, in this movie that we had in both Peacemaker and Suicide Squad. I learned so much from everything that I do.”
