The Godzilla franchise has had many iterations over its long-continuing run. Considering that the King of Monsters has been running roughshod in various films and series, he’s become quite the Hollywood icon for stomping his way even up to become a Netflix anime trilogy.

The Netflix anime trilogy takes a different turn from the entire franchise Toho built since the animated films are more character-driven rather than the clashing between monsters known within the Toho Universe.

Since the Gojira films have yet to come to a halt, here’s how to watch the Godzilla anime in order:

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters (2017)

Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters follows the story of how the human race had to evacuate towards outer space after the King of Monsters infiltrated planet Earth 20,000 years ago.

It was only thanks to protagonist Haruo Sakaki’s (voiced by Mamoru Miyano) obsession with the main Kaiju that led humanity to hold hope that they could reclaim their home.

Little by little, they figured out how they could potentially annihilate the Gojira from wreaking havoc on Earth, especially given how its presence heavily impacted the economy and environment.

However, it just so happens that right after defeating the main Kaiju of the story arises a bigger problem for the human race that leads straight into the sequel.

The synopsis for Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters reads:

The human race takes to the stars and abandons Earth after Godzilla wreaks havoc upon the planet. Thousands of years later, they return from space to destroy the giant monster and reclaim their home.

Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle (2018)

Seeing as Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters had humans evacuate Earth in the nick of time after the aforementioned Kaiju took over the planet, its sequel, Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle tells the story of the father of THAT Gojira, Mechagodzilla.

This time, after the previous Godzilla destroyed humanity’s only way of escaping Earth, the humans are stuck on their home planet, only to discover there is a tribe of survivors lurking within the shadows.

These survivors delve deeper into how they have evolved in accordance with the Gojira’s ruling, and with higher stakes introduced in this sequel, Haruo has to choose between having to kill Godzilla or end humanity once and for all.

The synopsis for Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle reads:

Haruo and his allies encounter a mysterious aboriginal tribe descended from the humans left behind on Earth 20,000 years ago, and they uncover a mechanized city-sized fortress formed from the long-lost anti-Godzilla weapon called Mechagodzilla.

Godzilla: The Planet Eater (2018)

After multiple failed attempts of having to kill the King (or at this point, ‘God’) of Monsters, Haruo is found seemingly leading the survivors under his command in Godzilla: The Planet Eater.

As they soon adapt to the ways of the tribe introduced in the sequel, Haruo is left to contemplate whether or not his goal of ridding themselves of the main Kaiju would still be a good idea for the future of humanity or not.

The synopsis for Godzilla: The Planet Eater reads:

Humans and their alien allies need Godzilla to destroy the powerful, three-headed entity known as Ghidorah before it can annihilate Earth.
