Giancarlo Esposito Addresses The Mandalorian Season 2's Surprise Luke Skywalker Cameo

There is little doubt that The Mandalorian Season 2 left everyone in awe when Luke Skywalker suddenly arrived to save the day and take Baby Yoda away. However, viewers were not the only ones who were surprised by Mark Hamill's cameo in the season finale. Giancarlo Esposito has just admitted that he had no idea that a Star Wars icon would be joining them in the Disney+ series.

Esposito played a major role in the second season of The Mandalorian as Moff Gideon continued his pursuit of Baby Yoda. But despite being one of the major players in Season 2, the former Breaking Bad star was kept in the dark about the show's major cameo.

Esposito recently spoke to Screenrant about Far Cry 6 but he also discussed his Star Wars show. Interestingly, the Better Call Saul star spoke about how Lucasfilm and Disney kept Hamill's appearance a secret until the last minute.

"I got to tell you, they're so good at keeping secrets and allowing us to know just enough, but not enough to be able to really get what's happening. None of us knew," Esposito said. "I mean, it is such a great thing that they're able to keep the lid on that."

This doesn't necessarily mean that The Mandalorian didn't trust its own cast and crew. However, the secrecy gave everyone working on the show to realize something about themselves.

"I know that they trusted us to not let it out in the world, but I think by virtue of the fact that it was such a secret, it also gave us the ability to surprise ourselves," Esposito said.

It's a cool reaction to being kept in the dark but it does make sense in the Star Wars Universe. The less that the cast and crew know about important things, the better to avoid spoilers. Needless to say, The Mandalorian made the right move with all the secrecy.

Esposito's latest project Far Cry 6 will be released on Amazon Luna, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia on October 7, 2021.
