Ghostbusters Afterlife Clip Shows New Team in Training

'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' is now just weeks away from release, and we're starting to think Sony Pictures is getting just as excited as we are!

In recent weeks, all sorts of promotional material have emerged. There have been new posters, stills, and even a third official trailer. It's possible studios are over-selling because of the impact COVID-19 has had on theatres, or maybe Sony is extremely confident in this film (or maybe both).

We're so excited we might explode like the Ecto-Containment Unit does in the first movie. And now, some footage has been released that shows some of the new generation ghostbusters in action. Check out the official new clip below:

The footage features McKenna Grace and Logan Kim as Phoebe and Podcast, two of the film's lead characters who, alongside Trevor (Finn Wolfhard) and Lucky (Celeste O'Conner) become the next generation of ghostbusters, after discovering all the original team's gear in the family farmhouse.

Thankfully, the clip doesn't reveal all that much - and it's safe to say that the new trailer doesn't either (unless of course you haven't seen the first two). The new trailer feels like more of a confirmation of everything fans had suspected based on the first two alone.

As for this new clip, we get to watch as Phoebe tests out an old proton pack in perhaps the safest environment out of any of the 'Ghostbusters' movies so far (in the 1984 original, Peter, Egon and Ray first try them out in a lavish dining hall, and in the reboot, the team tests them in an alleyway).

With that said, the proton pack is not a toy - so there's really no safe way for Phoebe to be trying out the nuclear particle accelerator whatsoever! Nevertheless, 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' will focus on a new team of ghostbusters, and they're all a lot younger than the original crew!

Going by the trailers, it's clear that Phoebe recovers the pack from the basement in her family's new farmhouse, which has been left behind by her grandfather Egon Spengler, who has since passed away, mirroring the tragic real-life passing of actor Harold Ramis.

There are a couple of callbacks in the new scene too. Phoebe tells her friend Podcast to "switch it on", which calls back to that elevator scene in the original movie, in which Ray Stantz asks his fellow ghostbusters to flip the on-switch on his proton pack before they cower at its strange sounds.

In the new trailer, we get to see the pack slowly come to life - no surprise considering it's been rusting away in an old basement for Gozer-knows-how-long. But once fully operational, Phoebe tests it by blasting a powerful stream at a target in an open field, though missing entirely.

Another interesting little nod are Podcast's ecto-goggles, which seem to come with a new feature, in the form of a built-in instant camera. How the new team will benefit from this little piece of tech remains to be seen, but it's definitely something that's going to hit toy shelves, that's for sure.

Now that we've had a bunch of marketing for 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife', and with the film just weeks away - hitting theaters on November 19 - it might be wise for Sony to stop releasing any more trailers or clips. On the other hand, the film does look a whole lot better than the reboot.
