Who is Gerardo Barcala in Shogun? Fans are Confused About Casting

There has been some confusion among fans as to which actor is actually playing the role of a priest in Shogun: is it Gerard Butler or Gerard Barcala?

After the first two episodes have been released, fans noticed that Gerard Butler's name doesn't appear in the credits nor has he shown up in the limited series yet. So, what gives?

As it turns out, the How To Train Your Dragon and Angel Has Fallen actor is NOT in the Shogun series. Rather, it is actually Gerard Barcala, whose name was in the credits.

Perhaps there was confusion as to which Gerard was cast in the role, especially since this is a smaller part compared to the others.

Either way, the Portuguese priest has yet to make his on-screen debut, which is why Barcala's involvement is listed as the voice behind the Portuguese Priest.

Gerard Barcala is an American actor and cinematographer, whose roles tend to either work in the background or as a voice actor.

Barcala was born in Galicia, Spain before he and his family moved to Germany when he was just six years old. He grew up to be trilingual, having learned Galician, Spanish, and German.

While the actor initially graduated with degrees in Economics and Political Science, he signed up to be a performer in light of finding movies and imitating voices and accents entertaining.

His earliest acting role was when he played a lion at the age of 7 for a local theater.

Barcala has been involved with the likes of The 100, Supernatural, A Series of Unfortunate Events, The Good Doctor, and even Superman and Lois.

As of current, he is the Portuguese priest whose voice was featured in Shogun episode 2 titled Servants of Two Masters.

He was featured in a scene with Lord Kiyama (Hiromoto Ida), where he asked if he may administer the Sacrament to Taikō.

In the meantime, the first two episodes of FX's Shogun are available to stream on Disney+.
