George Lucas Speculated to Return as Episode Director in Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 2

There's a brand new set photo from Star Wars: The Mandalorian that has everyone wondering whether Star Wars creator George Lucas might return to the franchise and direct an episode in the next season of the extremely successful Star Wars series.

The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau just shared a set photo on Instagram today, and in the picture fans get to see George Lucas fondly cradling the puppet of Baby Yoda. The set photo has gotten a lot of love from fans, and a lot of speculation as well.

According to a report by ComicBook.com, Favreau's little picture of Lucas carrying around Baby Yoda has sparked speculation that the Star Wars creator might return and direct an episode of the second season of The Mandalorian.

Sure, it might be hard to imagine Lucas behind the camera again after selling of Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012, but it's not entirely impossible. After all, Disney has brought Lucas back as a consultant on Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy. Why not bring him back as an episode director for The Mandalorian? The Star Wars creators' return would probably be a welcome surprise to fans.

It's been quite a while since we've seen Lucas actively working on a Star Wars project. The last time we've seen Lucas being credited as the director of a Star Wars movie was back in 2005 when the filmmaker was working on Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Of course, some fans wouldn't want Lucas back after the prequel trilogy, but there's always room for nostalgia, isn't there? What do you think? Would you want Lucas to direct an episode in The Mandalorian season 2? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
