George Lucas Reveals Why He Chose Not to Work on Star Wars Sequel Trilogy

There is little doubt that fans are still wondering what could have been if George Lucas decided to work on the Star Wars sequel trilogy films. After all, the filmmaker has revealed that his plans were quite different from what happened in the movies. But why did Lucas decide to give up on the franchise in the first place? The Star Wars creator has revealed why he agreed to pass the responsibility on to Disney.

Lucas was interviewed for the book The Star Wars Archives: 1999 - 2005 where he admitted that he was ready to take on the sequels. However, he also had another major thing to look forward to at the time.

"At that time I was starting the next trilogy, I talked to the actors and I was starting to gear up. I was also about to have a daughter with my wife," Lucas said. He then explained that working on a trilogy isn't something that can be done quickly.

"It takes 10 years to make a trilogy – Episodes I to III took from 1995 to 2005," Lucas stated. "I'd still be working on Episode IX! In 2012, I was 69. So the question was am I going to keep doing this the rest of my life? Do I want to go through this again? Finally, I decided I'd rather raise my daughter and enjoy life for a while."

That's right, Lucas chose to stay with his family instead of working on three more Star Wars films. It's an interesting decision for the filmmaker but it also made sense for him to want to do something else other than spending a decade making movies.

Although many fans might not agree with Lucas' decision to leave the franchise, it is still understandable for him to want to choose his family. Hopefully, Lucas is happy with his decision.
