Several characters have come and gone in the past seven seasons of Game of Thrones. However, one key figure is expected to return in the final season and ultimately help people meet their true destiny.
Melisandre has always been a mysterious character since she was introduced in the second season. Although she had only meant to serve the Lord of the Light and the Prince That Was Promised, the Red Woman found herself on the wrong side of Jon Snow who ordered her to leave Westeros.
She might be in Volantis right now but what are the chances that Melisandre will be back in the final season? Carice van Houten says her character is set to return with a new mission in Game of Thrones Season 8.
"I guess she probably sees herself more as a matchmaker at this point, bringing together the right people in the right place," Van Houten told Yahoo!. "Yes, steering people in the right direction because that's more her job now."
Melisandre notably convinced Daenerys Targaryen to meet with Jon Snow which ultimately led to the two joining forces in the seventh season. But will the Red Woman get to work her magic on Cersei Lannister in Season 8? Van Houten somehow revealed that it's simply not happening.
"...I would've liked for her and Cersei to meet up. I'm so curious what that would've been like. Although, with that, I'm spoiling something already," she said before adding, "But again, I might be lying! You never know."
At this point, we're not even sure if Melisandre is actually going to be part of the final season. Will she suddenly change her mind and go back to Westeros? We'll find out soon enough.
Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 2 will air on HBO on April 21.
