Game of Thrones Showrunners Joke About Possible Backlash to Their Star Wars Movies

While everyone is excited to see the final season of Game of Thrones, the series' showrunners are also working on a Star Wars film trilogy that has many viewers amped up. It's easy to see why, given the consistent quality of the HBO series, but working on a television serial is pretty different from working on a movie, though one would argue that television is harder than film.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, GoT showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss joked about the possible backlash their Star Wars trilogy would face. While people enjoy Game of Thrones, fans have shown their anger when it comes to characters getting killed, hence them joking about the possible backlash.

"We feel we're not quite hated enough by people we don't know. Our Captain Phasma origin story is going to blow people away."

This might also be a reference to the negative feedback that Rian Johnson got when he made Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Though critics loved it, fans were more mixed on the movie and it continues to be the most polarizing film in the franchise, with some even claiming that the film is worse than The Phantom Menace and The Clone Wars, which is a garbage statement.

Speaking of Johnson, The Last Jedi director is also working on his own Star Wars trilogy. This won't follow any of the previously established concepts that other movies have constantly used, like the Skywalkers and Jedi. It will be interesting, to say the least.

Star Wars: Episode IX comes out on December 20.
