Game of Thrones will never have any other ending than what was presented in the series finale, "The Iron Throne."
Speaking in an interview with Deadline, HBO programming president Casey Bloys reveals that Game of Thrones showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff have long since known how the series would end. Not only that, but according to Bloys, the Game of Thrones duo never really considered any other ending for the show.
"They are very smart, very bright, very methodical," Bloys tells the publication, describing Benioff and Weiss, "They've had this in their heads for a long time. So there weren't big debates about, should it end this way or not end this way, this is what they had planned."
This doesn't sound that surprising considering the fact that A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin already had an ending in mind for the series. What's disappointing is that the last two seasons of the series felt too rushed, creating issues in the show's story and character development.
There have been a lot of complaints about the last season of Game of Thrones. Not only are fans upset by the immense plot armor put around fan-favorite characters, but they're also upset at D&D's storytelling decisions. Daenerys' (Emilia Clarke) transition into the Mad Queen might have been inevitable, but the transformation seemed rushed and underdeveloped.
Fans have felt so betrayed by the last season of Game of Thrones that many have decided to rally together to petition HBO to remake the last batch of episodes.
