Oh boy, are we in for a crazy episode. The mood in Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 shifted so quickly that by the end of it, we're all wracked with emotions. Nevertheless, here we are, wanting to make sure that what happened in The Last of The Starks actually occurred.
SPOILERS HERE! If you haven't seen Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4, turn back now!
The episode opens on a tearful note as everyone says their goodbyes to the fallen. Daenerys Targaryen weeps over Jorah Mormont while Sansa Stark makes sure Theon Greyjoy is a Stark all the way to the end. Jon Snow (not Dany?) gives a moving speech before the corpses are burned in pyres (because you can never be too sure, right).
After the tearful opening, the survivors finally celebrate their victory over the Night King. Gendry tries to look for Arya Stark but is stopped by Daenerys, who decides to name him the legitimate son of Robert Baratheon and therefore Lord of Storm's End. Gendry takes this opportunity to ask Arya Stark to marry him but she isn't having any of it.
It's an awesome announcement that leads to a joyful shift in the mood and people start to loosen up. However, Dany is still in a dark mood as she realizes how much the people around her respect Jon more than her. This unease leads her to try and prevent Jon from telling his sisters about his true identity. Of course, that doesn't work out as they hoped.
In the meantime, Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth are clearly enjoying Tyrion Lannister's game until Tyrion states that Brienne is still a virgin. When Brienne leaves, Jaime follows her and the ship finally takes sail. Yes, Brienne and Jaime end up sleeping together, something that breaks Tormund Giantsbane's heart.
Everyone gathers to prepare for the attack on King's Landing and Sansa tries to postpone the war so soldiers can rest. Jon immediately supports his queen and says they will leave immediately. This leads to a meeting among the Starks at Godswood where Jon and Bran Stark finally tell their sisters the truth about Jon.
There are several tearful goodbyes as the army leaves for King's Landing. Tormund decides to leave with the Freefolk and Jon asks him to take Ghost with him. We learn that Gilly is pregnant with Sam's baby and that they would like to name it after Jon if it's a boy. After all that, Jon didn't even say goodbye to Ghost, who lost an ear, by the way. That's not a good sign, Jon.
Tyrion bids Sansa farewell but they get into an exchange where Sansa makes it clear that she doesn't think Daenerys would make a good queen. This is when she lets slip some important information about Jon to Tyrion.
Who else is going to King's Landing? The Hound and Arya Stark, who both have some unfinished business. People, Cleganebowl could finally happen next week!
On the way to King's Landing, Tyrion tells Varys what Sansa told him and they start to worry about their queen's mental state. Just as they bring that up, the Targaryen fleet is attacked by the Iron Fleet and Euron Greyjoy manages to kill Rhaegal with the large ballistas. This guy is going down for that.
The victory of the Iron Fleet certainly has its spoils. Missandei is captured and taken to Cersei Lannister, who tells Dany to surrender. When Dany refuses, Missandei is beheaded by the Mountain.
Unfortunately, Jaime learns about Cersei's victory and decides to head for King's Landing. Probably not a smart move but now we have all the main fighters at the capital. It's time for another epic battle.
