Game Of Thrones Season 8: Here's Why Jaime And Brienne's Reunion In Winterfell Is So Important

We still need to wait for a few hours before the premiere of Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 so why not reminisce about the awesome moments in the previous episode? In A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, we were treated to a few more reunions including that of Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth. Interestingly, the reunion was more than just two people being brought together in Winterfell.

There's a good reason why Stark supporters were delighted when Jaime and Brienne both ended up in Winterfell to join the fight against the Night King's army. After all, these two people wield the swords that were forged from Ice, the ancestral sword of House Stark. It only makes sense that Ice would somehow return to its home and defend its people from the White Walkers.

Ice first appeared in the first episode of Game of Thrones when Ned Stark used it to behead Will, the Night's Watch deserter. Ironically, the sword was later used by Illyn Payne to decapitate Ned in Season 1's ninth episode Baelor.

After being kept by the Lannisters as a trophy, Ice was finally melted down under Tywin Lannister's orders to create new Valyrian steel swords. The first one is given to Jaime, who later gives it to Brienne. It is Brienne who names the new sword Oathkeeper.

The second blade was presented to Joffrey Baratheon as a wedding gift and he announces that it will be called Widow's Wail. Interestingly, Jaime acquires the sword in the seventh season and Olenna Tyrell even wonders if Jaime will use it to kill her. (He let her choose poison).

It certainly has been a long journey but every Stark who left for King's Landing in the first season is finally back home. This includes the corpse of Ned Stark, his daughters Sansa and Arya Stark, and the ancestral blade. Now, all we can do is hope that they all survive the Battle of Winterfell.

Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3 will air on HBO on April 28.
