Game Of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3: All The Emotional Deaths In The Long Night [SPOILERS]

The night is dark and full of dead people. Seriously, there's a lot of them in Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3. Nevertheless, some of these deaths were truly heroic while others were something we have all been looking forward to for a long time.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers. If you haven't seen Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3, turn back now!

We already know that a lot of people were going to die in The Long Night. After all, these people were going up against the army of the dead led by a seemingly unkillable ice zombie. It's not surprising that most of the Dothraki and Unsullied were killed as the wights descended on Winterfell. However, one of the first tearful death happens around this time.

Edd Tollett has always been a little harsh on Samwell Tarly but was still relieved to see him joining him at the battlefield. Dolorous Edd spent most of his time on the Night's Watch trying to make Sam do the right thing and he continued saving his friend all the way till the end.

Beric Dondarrion might not be the most popular character on Game of Thrones but he certainly served his purpose in Season 7 and in the latest episode. Unfortunately, as Melisandre puts it, he has served his purpose (which was to get Arya Stark into safety).

Here's a fan favorite that everyone was hoping would make it all the way to the end. Lyanna Mormont has already proven her spunk but we have yet to see her on the battlefield. It's only a brief glimpse but one that solidified just what a little badass the Lady of Bear Island truly is. Yes, she took on the reanimated Wun Wun and was crushed by the giant. However, Lyanna also managed to stick a dragonglass blade into the giant's good eye and killed it. What a legend.

Unfortunately, Lyanna isn't the only Mormont who gets killed in Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 3. Jorah Mormont proved that he would stick with his Khaleesi all the way to the end, even if it meant sacrificing his own life to keep her safe. He defended her when Drogon left her at the battlefield and refused to give up despite the great number of wights surrounding them. A man who will truly be missed in the series.

The most heartbreaking death in The Long Night is undoubtedly that of Theon Greyjoy. People were already expecting the worst to happen to Theon when he volunteered to protect Bran Stark at the Godswood. Theon's death may have been in vain since there was no way he could defeat the Night King. However, it gave his sweeping story arc a fitting conclusion as he dies a hero's death. You're truly a good man, Theon.

The surprising return of Melisandre came with a purpose and one that is certainly long overdue. Melisandre came bringing fire to light the swords and trenches of Winterfell. It would have been interesting to see more interactions between the Red Woman and Arya but as Melisandre predicted, she would die in this strange land. As she foretold, she was dead before dawn after the battle.
