With Game of Thrones Season 8, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss became the most hated writers on the internet overnight. A lot of people have been talking trash about "D&D" online, but actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is not having it.
During a small Q&A panel (via The Huffington Post), Coster-Waldau said:
"For anyone to imagine or to think that the two creators of the show are not the most passionate, the greatest, the most invested of all, and to for a second think that they didn't spend the last 10 years thinking about how they were going to end it is kind of silly… And also know that they too read the comments. And it is, even though you sit on your own and go, ‘F–king stupid writers. Assholes.' They really ― like everyone on Game of Thrones, every single person and there are thousands ― we worked our asses off to make the best show we could for the ending."
The funny thing is, though a lot of people blame D&D for what happened in the show, there has still been a lot of praise going around for the actors and the crew for doing their best. I guess Coster-Waldau didn't get to those comments, then again, most of the buzz on Game of Thrones has been focused on hating on D&D.
For now, Game of Thrones is set to have their own panel at SDCC 2019, and a lot of the fans online have been saying that they will outright go to the event to "boo" on Benioff and Weiss. There is another camp though, that's strongly against it because even if they didn't like the show, boo-ing the showrunners could very well embarrass the other cast and crew onstage; add to that it will just add to the flame of the media branding the fans as "toxic."
We don't know how the panel will turn out, but best case scenario, we'll have a title and release date for the prequel spinoff series.
