The final season of Game of Thrones is coming this April, and while the cast and crew have teased a lot of exciting things for the fans to look forward to, and while much of the characters' fates are still shrouded in mystery, we do know that Season 8 will not include a cameo from the creator of the franchise, George R.R. Martin.

Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss reportedly offered a cameo to the Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin in the final season of Game of Thrones but Martin recently told Entertainment Weekly that he turned it down. According to Martin, he's busy working on the final book of his Song of Ice and Fire series, Winds of Winter, and the trip to Belfast from New Mexico would've taken him away from his work for a long time.

"David and Dan invited me to a cameo in one of the final episodes, which I was tempted to do," Martin admitted. "But I didn't think just for the sake of a cameo I could take the time to return to Belfast."

It would have been cool to see Martin cameo in Game of Thrones. It would just be like how Stan Lee appears in the Marvel films. Martin said that he actually filmed a cameo in the first episode of the series, as a guest at the wedding of Daenerys and Kahl Drogo, but that was during the original filming of the pilot when Daenerys was played by a different actress.

"There was a cameo in the original pilot that was cut," he revealed "I was a guest at Dany's wedding. But that was when she was played by Tamzin Merchant so all that footage got thrown out when we recast with Emilia Clarke."

Season 8 will probably have various celebrity cameos so look forward to them.

Game of Thrones Season 8 is set to premiere on April 14.
