Game of Thrones BTS Featurette Dives Into the Special Effects of the Series

With the final season of Game of Thrones coming in two weeks, HBO has been releasing these regular featurettes to get us hyped up for the premiere. Just in, we got a new one focusing on the visual effects work that went into bringing Westeros to life.

While the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones were able to scrape by with minimal effects, just filling in scenes with characters talking, the final seasons have had to go all out when it comes to the CGI. Besides animating the dragons, the VFX team had to give us fully populated battlefields as well as sweeping shots of cities that aren’t there. With the final season incoming, fans are expecting nothing but the best from the show—which is probably a lot of pressure on everyone behind the production.

For now, the big thing being teased for GoT 8 is a battle with the White Walkers. It’s not clear whether this will be taking place in Winterfell or King’s Landing, but it’s said that this will be a bigger debacle compared to the achievement that was the Battle of the Bastards. Personally, I’m more excited for the political intrigue that comes with the series, but I wouldn’t say no to some more dragon-on-zombie action.

The eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is set to premiere on HBO this coming April 14.
