People all have their theories and expectations about what will happen in the final season of Game of Thrones. However, it looks like Season 8 is determined to make sure every little theory goes down the drain. This is made clear by the two disappointing deaths in the latest episode The Bells.
WARNING: Major Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 spoilers ahead! Turn back now and watch The Bells before proceeding!
In The Bells, Daenerys Targaryen realized that the only way she could take King's Landing was through fear. Just like Cersei Lannister facing the Faith Militants in Season 6, she chose violence and it was something that Cersei probably wasn't expecting.
As Daenerys and Drogon burned down everything in their path on the way to the Red Keep, Cersei refused to leave up until the last minute. This may have been a mistake as it meant losing Qyburn, the Mountain, and every soldier protecting her as she tried to find a way out of the crumbling castle.
However, it wasn't in vain. Just as the walls are collapsing, she is reunited with Jaime Lannister, who has returned to King's Landing to be with her. Although they both tried to escape through a boat left behind by Tyrion Lannister, their exit is blocked by rocks from the crumbling building. As death closes in, Jaime assures Cersei that "nothing else matters, only us." With that, they embrace and accept their death.
This certainly isn't the way that people pictured Cersei and Jaime's deaths. Perhaps some were hoping that Jaime will kill Cersei because of the whole valonqar prophecy that was specifically cut out from Maggy the Frog's speech. Maybe it will happen in the books but it doesn't mean the series will do the same thing.
Although it was disappointing to see that these two villainous characters (remember Season 1?) didn't suffer a more violent death, the show may have been hinting at how it will end for Cersei and Jaime. After all, Jaime had always said that he wanted to die in the arms of the woman he loves. This could explain why he decided to return to King's Landing when he learned that Cersei had Rhaegal and Missandei killed. He knew the end was coming and he had to be with his sister when she died.
It's not a Joffrey Baratheon-level death that we were hoping for but it's one that somehow fit perfectly for Cersei and Jaime. They somehow deserved to die together after everything they did to everybody else for the sake of their beloved.
