First Look at Unicorn: Warriors Eternal from Original Clone Wars Showrunner

Animator Genndy Tartakovsky is known best for his work on Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack, and the original Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and it looks like he's teaming up with HBO Max to bring us another fantastical show.

Here's our first look at Tartakovsky's Unicorn: Warriors Eternal:

According to Variety, the show is said to be inspired by myths and lore from all over the world, and the series will focus on a team of ancient teenagers who will team-up to defend the world from evil. Here's a small description:

Throughout history, unicorns have symbolized the virtuous, appearing to ensure that goodness reigns. When the reawakening of our heroes comes too early, they find themselves in the bodies of teenagers. Damaged as a result, their memories of who they are and the history of the unicorn over the centuries have been lost, with some of their magical abilities weakened and fragmented. Not only do they have to protect the world against the prevailing darkness, they have to do it while navigating the unexpected laughs and humor that come with teen angst and emotions.

While the premise does look serious, I'm sure Tartakovsky is still going to instil some humor in the show, making Unicorns a treat for both his older fans and younger audiences. I especially love how the characters look, and I'm excited to see how the show will try to meld different stories and lore from around the world.

Personally, I though Tartakovsky's work had a very significant 2D feel—even with his 3D-animated films like Hotel Transylvania. Then again, they have evolved over time, and his most recent work Primal for Adult Swim is looking fantastic.

No release date has been set for Unicorns: Warriors Eternal, but it will probably hit HBO Max sometime in 2021.
