First Enhanced Look at Leia In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Revealed

Our first look at Leia in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been revealed.

Vanity Fair released a bunch of new images from the film including one that gives us a glimpse of Leia. For those who don't know, director J.J. Abrams wrote around old footage of Carrie Fisher from Star Wars: The Force Awakens for the upcoming film.

In a photo of legendary composer John Williams conducting the Star Wars score, we can see a shot of Leia in the background. Redditors have found a way to enhance the image to get a better look.

The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker image appears to be an alternate version of her shot at the end of The Force Awakens during the scene she sees Rey off as she prepares to get Luke Skywalker. In that scene, we see Leia say to her, "May the force be with you." Check it out below courtesy of Redditor Dentface. A more upscaled version was provided by SirRidley, which you can check here.

During the Vanity Fair interview, Abrams talked a bit about how he incorporated the unused Leia footage into the film. "It's hard to even talk about it without sounding like I'm being some kind of cosmic spiritual goofball," he said. "But it felt like we suddenly had found the impossible answer to the impossible question," he went on to say.

The director revealed that he looked for ways to fit the lines into Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker organically and recreated the lighting in the scene to make it seamless when transitioning to the new scenes that feature Leia.

"It was a bizarre kind of left side/right side of the brain sort of Venn diagram thing, of figuring out how to create the puzzle based on the pieces we had," Abrams explained.

In some scenes, Leia interacts with Connix, played by Fisher's real-life daughter Billie Lourd. "There are moments in this movie where Carrie is there, and I really do feel there is an element of the uncanny, spiritual, you know, classic Carrie, that it would have happened this way, because somehow it worked. And I never thought it would," Abrams continued.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December.
