Endwalker was originally scheduled for release on Tuesday, November 23, 2021. But as per a message from Naoki Yoshida, this release date was postponed, to allow the game to be as polished as possible.

The new release date is Tuesday, December 7, 2021. The explanation behind the delay is to try to ensure that "stability" will be sufficient upon release. There will almost certainly be a surge in users putting pressure on the servers, and it's nice to see a company placing emphasis on the day one experience.

Endwalker brings with it a host of new features. The story focuses on the end of the Hydaelyn and Zodiark arc, and brings with it new jobs, challenges, and new systems. The list is long, and includes:

  • New jobs: Sage and Reaper
  • A new playable race: male Viera
  • Level cap increase from 80 to 90
  • New cities: Old Sharlayan and Radz-at-Han
  • Travel to expansive new areas, including Labyrinthos, Thavnair, Garlemald, and Mare Lamentorum
  • New tribes to encounter: Loporrits and the Arkasodara
  • New threats to overcome, including Anima and the Magus Sisters
  • New dungeons
  • A new high-difficulty raid: Pandæmonium
  • A new alliance raid series: Myths of the Realm
  • New Small-scale PvP Content
  • An additional Trust ally: Estinien Wyrmblood
  • A new residential district: Ishgard
  • Updates to the Gold Saucer
  • Relaxing fun in Island Sanctuary
  • New gear and crafting recipes
  • A new data center: Oceania
  • Expanded horizons via the Data Center Travel System

This will be the largest expansion pack ever made for FFXIV, and it's easy to see why.

As well as all this new content, anyone who pre-orders the game can enjoy the following bonuses:

  • Palom Minion
  • Menphina Earring (including 30% EXP bonus up to level 80)
  • Early access to Endwalker

One final, potentially important piece of information: it has been confirmed by eagle-eyed reporters at PC Gamer that because of some numerical downscaling that's due to happen when Endwalker is released, all mid-level experience will be reset to 0. So if you are on the brink of leveling up, make sure you get there before the 6.0 patch lands on December 3. Otherwise, you risk losing a lot of hard-earned EXP.
