It's no secret that most of the Hollywood greats turn to method acting to turn in a truly rivetting performance. However, Mads Mikkelsen simply isn't impressed with the technique. The Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore star has just shared his views on method acting, stating that "it's bullsh-t!"
Mads Mikkelsen has always been a meticulous actor, doing the proper research on a role to help him get into character. However, the Polar star has no intention of going method just to prepare for a role. "It's bullsh-t," he tells GQ. Mikkelsen points out that being prepared is important. “But preparation, you can take into insanity,” he states.
“What if it’s a sh-t film – what do you think you achieved?” Mikkelsen continued. “Am I impressed that you didn’t drop character? You should have dropped it from the beginning! How do you prepare for a serial killer? You gonna spend two years checking it out?”
Despite his clear hatred for method acting, Mads Mikkelsen seems eager to work with famous method actor Daniel Day-Lewis. “I would have the time of my life, just breaking down the character constantly.” He then pokes fun at how the process works. “‘I’m having a cigarette? This is from 2020, it’s not from 1870 – can you live with it?’” Mikkelsen asks in a prissy voice before adding “It’s just pretentious.”
He might not be a fan of method acting but Mikkelsen was quick to point out that he does admire the Phantom Thread actor. “Daniel Day-Lewis is a great actor. But it’s got nothing to do with this,” he said.
It's interesting to know just how strongly Mads Mikkelsen is opposed to method acting but he is clearly one actor who doesn't need it. With that in mind, we can't wait to see him take on the next big role later this month.
