Eternals Writer Reveals An MCU Show Affected the Outcome of Post-Credits Scene

WARNING: This article contains spoilers regarding the post-credits scenes of Eternals.

One of the most talked-about moments in Eternals is the post-credits scenes. The first one featured the introduction of Eros (played by Harry Styles) and Pip the Troll (voiced by Patton Oswalt) in the MCU while the second one featured the long-awaited debut of Mahershala Ali's Blade (albeit through an off-screen voice appearance).

In an interview with Slash Film, Eternals co-screenwriters Ryan Firpo and Kaz Firpo discussed their process of coming up with the post-credits scenes of the film. They revealed that Eros' appearance was planned from the get-go while the introduction of Blade was a last-minute idea thanks to a certain MCU show.

Kaz said, "We wrote about a half a dozen, maybe more, honestly, endings, like codas. That's one of those processes that they're iterating constantly. So we tried. The Eros was a character we always knew. Starfox would even show up. It just was the perfect, I'd say, again, another logical conclusion for somebody to kind of break the whole mold wide open, introduce a really fun new element."

He added, "So that was something that, from the beginning, I think it was even in the script in some drafts, just that ending moment. And Dane, and particularly Blade, I think that's something that they discovered along the way. There's some other really exciting, really, really big ones. And I think the decision once Loki came out and kind of did what it did, and sort of, it created a lot of doors that were left open. And so Blade was something that came, I think, quite late in the process that just, we're really stoked for as fans."

It looks like Loki has something to do with why they decided to introduce Blade in the second post-credits scene of the film. Of course, during the end of the first season finale, they opened up the multiverse which created endless possibilities.

Fans were delighted when they heard Ali's voice in the end as it confirms that the daywalker is officially in the MCU and they can't wait to see him in his solo film or his rumored appearance in Moon Knight. It also makes sense for him to show up there given the tease on Dane Whitman's future as Black Knight with the Ebony Blade and his connection to the supernatural side of the MCU.

Despite the mixed reviews from critics, Eternals is still a huge success as it received a very solid audience score and has earned more than $300 million at the worldwide box office. The film is still showing in theaters.
