Eternals Star Angelina Jolie Expresses Interest to Direct an MCU Movie

One of the exciting parts that fans have been looking forward to seeing in Eternals is Angelina Jolie's debut in the MCU. The actress has been known as one of the top A-listers in Hollywood and played iconic roles such as Maleficent and Lara Croft as well as being an accomplished filmmaker and humanitarian. Now, for the first time in her career, she is starring in a superhero film.

Speaking with Variety during the world premiere event of Eternals, Jolie was asked about the possibility of directing an MCU movie in the future. She responded, "I don't know. I mean I will talk to Kevin [Feige] tonight and see if there's a job for me."

If you also look at the interview, she didn't express any hesitation on the possibility of helming an MCU movie and she seems to be interested to do it if some discussions will happen with Marvel Studios head, Kevin Feige. To date, she has directed four narrative feature films, the latest being Netflix's First They Killed My Father from 2017. She is clearly an experienced director at this point so it shouldn't be shocking if we'll hear reports that she might direct an MCU movie.

The question now is if Jolie will end up directing an MCU project, what kind of movie will she make? If you look at her past works, she leans more on the kinds of films that tackle gripping social issues and are also inspirational. A good guess would be she might learn towards a character that has an impactful message to the audience, particularly in relation to humanitarian work since the actress herself advocates it in real life.

We know that Marvel Studios is developing a lot of projects at the moment so there is a slot for Jolie to direct one if such an opportunity comes for her. If ever we hear a confirmation that she will be directing an MCU movie, we will certainly welcome it and she would be a wonderful addition to the great repertoire of filmmakers who have worked on the franchise.
