The Elusive Samurai anime’s release date is finally confirmed with only a few weeks until the beginning of summer 2024.
Along with the anime’s premiere date announcement was the release of a new trailer that shows off more footage of the anime’s main characters.
What’s more, the trailer also features our best look yet at the show’s animation courtesy of studio CloverWorks (of Spy x Family and Bocchi the Rock! fame).
The Elusive Samurai Release Date and Schedule Announced
As with many summer 2024 shows, The Elusive Samurai is based on an ongoing manga by Yusei Matsui, the creator of Assassination Classroom.
This anime was initially announced in March 2023, though at the time, no release details were mentioned.
Finally, the anime’s latest trailer was released, confirming that the series will premiere on July 6, 2024. This makes it one of the earlier anime premieres of the season.
Given that its premiere will be on July 6, fans can expect to get one new episode every Saturday throughout the season, though it’s not clear how many episodes the series will have.
For now, there’s no word on whether the show will have a one or two-cour length.
Even if it does end up being a two-cour show (around 24 episodes typically), there should be plenty of source material to work with, as the manga has 15 volumes with over 150 chapters.
As such, there’s enough material for potentially three seasons already.
Where to Watch The Elusive Samurai Anime
In Japan, The Elusive Samurai will air on Tokyo MX, BS11, GYT, and GTV every Saturday beginning July 6.
For now, there’s no word yet on a streaming platform partner and release date for the anime outside of Japan, but it’s likely going to be streamed on Crunchyroll.
That’s because the show is animated by CloverWorks, a studio owned by Aniplex, which is itself under Sony.
As Crunchyroll is also under the Sony Group, most Aniplex titles are streamed on Crunchyroll, so it would make sense that CloverWorks’ new anime will also be released there.
Yusei Matsui’s Latest Work Is an Unexpected Historical Adventure Series
Yusei Matsui’s Assassination Classroom was a big hit thanks to its sci-fi action premise. Thus, it was surprising that his follow-up Shonen Jump manga is wildly different.
The Elusive Samurai is a historical adventure series set during the Kenmu Restoration in the 1300s. Its story follows Hojo Tokiyuki who is on the run after his family is overthrown by the Ashikaga.
Tokiyuki is joined by allies who aim to help him get revenge, though his ability isn’t exactly helpful for this, as Tokiyuki's main ability is to run and hide.
