Dwayne Johnson Calls Out WB's 'Inexcusable' Decision to Not Bring Back Henry Cavill

Ever since Henry Cavill returned as Superman in the post-credits scene of Black Adam, a lot of DCU fans have been rejoicing and celebrating his comeback after years of absence. Prior to his recent return, it felt like all hope was lost for him to ever show up again in the franchise and, as revealed by Dwayne Johnson himself, there really were no plans for him to return prior to the film.

In a recent video that he posted on Twitter, Johnson addressed his fans as he thanked them for Black Adam's chart-topping performance in its digital release. He also shared a tidbit on how they managed to bring back Cavill in the role where he slammed the old regime of Warner Bros. for their "inexcusable" decision to not continue the actor's tenure in the franchise.

"And at the end of the day, the studio was not bringing Henry Cavill back, inexplicably and inexcusably. But we weren’t going to take no for an answer," he revealed.

"Myself, my Seven Bucks co-founder and chairwoman, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, our Seven Bucks president. This has been years in the making regarding bringing Henry Cavill back. And years of strategic conversations and we were not gonna take no for an answer."

The Black Adam star also pointed out that it would be impossible to build the DCU without the presence of Superman in the franchise and he knew that it was important for them to bring back Cavill in the role.

He continued, "And also, something else to think about is, for us, there was no way, there’s no viable, logical way that you can attempt to build out the DC universe without the most powerful force and the greatest superhero of all time sitting on the sidelines. It’s impossible to do."

"You can Venn diagram, business-wise, this whole thing 90 different times. But it all comes back to 'Where’s Superman?' You have to have Superman in the mix. So that’s why we fought hard to bring Superman back, Henry Cavill."

Johnson also praised Cavill's take on the hero where he called him "our generation's Superman" and even went on to further say that he is also "the greatest Superman."

"And there was no other Superman, by the way, to bring back. Henry Cavill is our generation’s Superman and, in my opinion, the greatest Superman," he declared.

"And I mean that respectfully to the other actors, especially Christopher Reeve. But the greatest Superman of all time. So again, bringing Henry back, now we build out the DC universe properly, strategically, smartly. Again, the hierarchy of power in the DC universe has changed."

Ever since Warner Bros. Discovery took over the leadership of the studio, it became a priority for them to bring back Superman into the fold again which is why they approved Johnson and his team's plan for Cavill to return to the role again and a lot of fans have welcomed it ever since it happened.

Now, it's just a matter of what their next plan is for the character. Right now, newly-minted DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently figuring out what's next for the franchise and it's only a matter of time before we find out the next step for Cavill's Superman.
