Most Korean shows or films have romance in them. Dream stars two of the biggest names in the Korean entertainment industry – Park Seo-joon and Lee Ji-eun (IU). Both have starred in a number of romance K-dramas. So, is there romance in the Korean movie Dream?

What is Dream About?
In Dream, Yoon Hong-dae (Park Seo-joon), a professional football player, gets caught up in an incident where he assaulted a reporter after the latter asks questions about his mother in hiding.
To revamp his public image, Hong-dae agrees to coach a football team of homeless people for the Homeless World Cup.
A documentary about this team will be filmed by director Lee So-min (IU), which would help fix Hong-dae’s public image.
While Hong-dae initially refuses to help the team, he finds out more about the lives of the players, which leads to him caring about them.
Hong-dae is also forced to work with So-min. So, do Hong-dae and So-min get together? Amidst all the sports and comedy in Dream, is there romance?
Does Dream Have Romance? Genre Explained
Dream is a sports comedy film, not a romance film. While viewers were hoping for Park Seo-joon’s Hong-dae and IU’s So-min to have a romantic connection, a romance between them does not happen.
Hong-dae and So-min always find themselves arguing and disagreeing with each other. While they start understanding each other at some point, they don’t get romantically involved.
There’s only a small portion of Dream that has romance, and it’s not between the main characters.
It involves one of the homeless players, Kim In-sun, who has a tragic backstory. When he was seven, his parents drugged him and took their own lives.
In-sun had aphasia for a while until a girl befriended him. He eventually began to speak again and go to school.
They grew up together, and they only had each other. But unfortunately, she was reported missing after a tragic company picnic.
Because her body was never found, In-sun believes she is still alive and continues to look for her.
He joins the team after Hong-dae tells him that the documentary would be broadcast nationwide. This way, In-sun could let his loved one know that he’s looking for her and waiting for her.
Apart from such, the Korean movie Dream does not really have romance. The movie deals with sports, careers, and family – less romance.
While this is unusual for Korean shows or movies, Dream’s story makes it a film that’s worth watching.
