New Dragon Ball Super Promo Shows Goku Taking A Vacation

Dragon Ball Super is trending once again thanks to the theatrical release of its latest movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, in Japan. This time, Gohan and Piccolo are at center stage, leading the battle against the newly-revived Red Ribbon Army, the criminal organization originally intorduced in the Dragon Ball series. Of course, Goku and Vegeta have their own roles to play in the film, but the anime gave them a bit of a break this time around.

Now, a new Dragon Ball Super promo was released recently, and it was there the manga's artist presented Goku's recent vacation. Toyotarou was tasked with illustrating a summer sketch of the Saiyan hero to celebrate a big convention in Japan. As shown below, the manga showed Goku dressed-up as if he's having a vacation in Hawaii.

Toyotarou's sketch clearly shows that Goku is enjoying his vacation, with his torso bare and a beaded necklace over his shoulders and ukelele in hand. The new art highlights Goku's chiseled physique while his lower half is covered by a Hulu skirt.

This sketch makes it clear Goku is having a good time on vacation, and this is hardly the first time Dragon Ball has been tied to Hawaii. While the series has never made any formal nods to the former territory, creator Akira Toriyama has featured a number of stereotypically Hawaiian motifs in Dragon Ball. From clothing to architecture and Roshi's iconic Kamehameha, Dragon Ball has borrowed from Hawaiian culture on several occasions. And now, this sketch gives Goku the chance to experience part of the Hawaiian Islands firsthand.
