Don Lee has been in the South Korean entertainment business since 2005. He started as a North Korean soldier in the movie Heaven’s Soldiers.

He continued his hard work until he gradually rose to fame when he did the films The Neighbor, Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time and The Unjust. From here, he began playing lead roles in Norigae, Murderer and One on One.

However, it was not until he did Train to Busan, opposite Gong Yoo, that he experienced international recognition. Luck seemed to be on the 51-year-old actor’s side as his next movies, Derailed, The Bros and The Outlaws, became critical and commercial successes.

Don Lee on His Role in Eternals

Meanwhile, in an interview with Outlook, Don Lee revealed the reason why he said yes to doing Eternals. As a longtime fan of the MCU, The Outlaws star instantly agreed to play the role of Gilgamesh.

"I have been such a huge fan of the Marvel films for such a long time. I did get offers from Hollywood to be part of different films,” he said. “But back then, I was either acting or producing and I was busy working in Korea. But, when I was given this role, it was the perfect timing.”

Aside from being a fan, he also admitted that Gilgamesh perfectly suited his personality and characteristics.

“That’s what drew me and attracted me to the character. That’s why I think it was the perfect opportunity to be part of this marvel film,” he added.

However, despite the physical demands of his role, Don Lee revealed he did not prepare much for the training since he had been working out regularly.

“I have been doing boxing for over 30 years now, so I have always been in shape and keep myself fit, always preparing myself [for such roles],” he continued.

Another thing that attracted him to make the movie was the realistic approach to its characters.

“In the film, the characters all show different aspects such as death and life. There are a lot of emotions on display as well, such as love. I guess you can say that the characters have a sort of three-dimensional,” he said. “They are more humanistic and realistic characters so that the audience can relate to it. I think that was a lot different than other superhero films, and definitely one of the things that made me say yes to it.”
