What Happened to the Pig in Butareba?
The story begins with a plain and ordinary university student who collapses in the station after eating raw pig liver dipped in sesame oil.
The raw pig liver was surprisingly jiggly and good; it almost seemed like he ate pig liver pudding.
The next day, he was suddenly racked with pain shooting through his stomach, and he eventually collapsed in the station.
When he woke up, he was in a pigpen where his body was heavy, his limbs wouldn’t move, his eyesight was strange and blurry, his field of vision was widened but dim and colorless, and he could smell the strong odor of pigs.
That’s when he realizes that he has become a pig. He thought he was dreaming at a hospital, where people usually find themselves waking up after having an episode like that.
In addition, a blonde girl was dragging him, rolling him like a ham. Interestingly, he wants her to clean his dirty body and brush him like ordinary pigs.
This blonde girl introduced herself as Jess of Yesma, who told him that he wandered into the small barn she was in charge of. She immediately noticed that he was unlike any ordinary pig in the pigpen.
Jess serves the house of Kirtlin, and she informs him that she can communicate through her mind, not relying on her mouth and ears, which explains why she can understand the pig’s thoughts.
He reveals that he came from Tokyo, but Jess told him that she doesn’t have any knowledge of countries outside of Mesteria.
Does the Pig Have Powers in Butareba?
So far, it hasn’t been revealed that the pig has powers in Butareba. The pig certainly retained his human consciousness and knowledge, making him a sentient pig.
On the other hand, Jess Yesma can understand the pig effortlessly. She can look into the pig’s thoughts, emotions, and desires.
This is one of the pig’s problems, for her pigly desires are overflowing, and he doesn’t want Jess to find out about them.
Jess can also use ristas, which were produced by the great magician. It contains magical powers and can be used in different ways. As a Yesma, Jess can use the rarest rista, the Black Rista, for prayers.
The black ristas also allow Jess to make a miracle that only magicians could make happen. Its effects differ depending on how powerful the prayer of a Yesma is.
Jess used it twice on the pig, the first one when she healed him in the pig pen, and the other one when the pig was stabbed.

Does the Pig Ever Return to Human Form in Butareba?
The pig has yet to return to human form in Butareba. He is still the same pig that Jess Yesma has taken care of by using black ristas.
The pig may return to human form with the help of a magician from the royal family.
According to Jess, some races can turn animal-like. She heard stories within history that some could turn completely into beasts.
This includes a story from 100 years ago when magicians were at war and used magic to turn people into vultures to spy on or into fat seals to punish them. However, the number of magicians in the present has dwindled.
In Mesteria, only the royal family, which was the victor coming out of the dark ages, is said to be the only line of magicians left that exist, which can help the pig revert to human form.
