Doctor Strange Director Teases Existence of Multiple Spider-Men in the MCU

A lot of intrigue surrounds the Marvel Cinematic Universe's third Spider-Man film after it was announced last month that Jamie Foxx will be reprising his role as Electro following his unsuccessful stint in Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This new development has led fans to believe that Marvel Studios is setting up a live-action Spider-Verse film and Doctor Strange's recent inclusion in the cast seems to prove that Kevin Feige and his crew are indeed diving into unfamiliar territory.

However, Sony has already dismissed the rumors suggesting both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are joining Tom Holland in the yet-to-be-titled Spider-Man 3 but Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson believes there are multiple Spider-Men in the MCU canon. Derrickson recently engaged in a fun Twitter thread, claiming that Tom Holland's version of the web-slinger isn't the only one that exists in the MCU. He wrote: "All Spider-man iterations are defacto MCU."

Assuming that Doctor Stephen Strange will be the one responsible for opening the gateway to the Marvel Multiverse, it wouldn't be too farfetched to believe that there are other iterations of our favorite Marvel heroes (and villains) out there but at this point, don't get too excited about the possibility of Tom Holland sharing some screen time with past Spider-Man actors because the chances of Marvel Studios actually pulling the trigger on a full-blown Spider-Verse film seems to be getting a lot slimmer. Quite a shame, to be frank, as I've mentioned countless times that the idea has the potential of becoming the biggest crossover event in superhero film history.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has started production.
