Doctor Strange Director Reveals He's Known About Avengers: Endgame Plot And Captain America's Fate For Years

Before Avengers: Infinity War broke hearts and created memes, Joe Russo, half of the directing duo behind the film and the much-anticipated sequel, Avengers: Endgame apparently ran their plan by Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson.

He took to Twitter to share the story, which began outside the men's room. "While editing Doctor Strange at Marvel, I ran into Joe Russo outside the men's room. He pitched me the basic story for both Infinity War and Endgame," he revealed to his Twitter followers.

"I told him that if he could make the first movie work, the second movie would be f-----g incredible," he went on to say.

When a fan attempted to ask about the fate of Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, Derrickson said that Russo did tell him about this. Of course, he wouldn't say anything about it, but he did leave a code for fans to decipher to learn the answer.

Clearly, Avengers: Infinity War was a smashing success. Based on what Derrickson has said, Endgame is bound to blow people away, not that this wasn't already obvious. However, it does suggest that the first film had to do a lot of the heavy lifting to make sure there is anticipation for the next one.

Whatever the Russos had planned, it seems that it hinged on the reception and performance of the first film. At the same time, it goes to show that it was a huge risk and one that would take great creative minds to work.

The tweet also reveals that the Russo brothers had the basic idea of what would happen to our heroes in Avengers: Endgame for a few years now. Of course, this does not come as a surprise considering how important this film is.

The synopsis for Avengers: Endgame reads:

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios' grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Endgame hits the theaters April 26.
