When Doctor Strange's sequel, Multiverse of Madness released its final trailer, we were able to have a glimpse of all the characters possibly appearing for the film. Some of the rumors are confirmed and some still remain a mystery waiting to happen. One particular scene was an appearance of a one-eyed octopus creature that is attacking Strange and America Chavez. This creature was believed to be Shuma-Gorath, an ancient powerful creature from the extradimensional realm.

In recent reports, Marvel claims that the creature isn’t really Shuma-Gorath but instead, Gargantos, a sea monster who’s an enemy of Namor. Fans were having a difficult time accepting the fact that the creature isn’t Shuma-Gorath even though it clearly looks like its Comics counterpart.

The reason why Marvel didn’t call the creature Shuma-Gorath was furtherly explained. Heroic Signatures Fred Malmberg confirms that Marvel Studios didn’t claim the rights for Shuma-Gorath and cant use the character yet in any of their films. When asked by Comicbook.com whether the licensor was open to working with Marvel Studios in the future,

"We have a great relationship with Marvel and have worked together to solve many snags over the years, but who can answer this hypothetical?" Malmberg says.

For fans who are waiting for the Shuma-Gorath’s debut in the Marvel Universe, Malmberg was asked if we can see the creature fighting the Marvel heroes, "As for our future plans for the character, that is not something we can reveal at the moment. Stay tuned," Malmberg responded.
