Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is one of the most anticipated MCU movies for Phase 4 and judging by its title alone, it's going to be one heck of a ride. The real question is, who will be the one responsible for opening up the portal to the Marvel multiverse? Ongoing theories suggest that Wanda Maximoff, who's also set to appear in the film will accidentally unlock the gateway to the multiverse in Disney+'s WandaVision but according to the film's official synopsis, it could actually be none other than Doctor Stephen Strange himself.
Twitter user and Marvel insider @cosmic_marvel has released the official plot details for the Doctor Strange sequel which is set to feature the return of Baron Mordo (played by Chiwetel Ejiofor) who turned from good to evil during the 2016 MCU film's post-credits scene. Interestingly, the synopsis points at Strange who will "unleash unspeakable evil", hinting that the Sorcerer Supreme might have something to do with all the mayhem that will ensue in the MCU. Read the synopsis below:
Now, as shocking as it may seem, Stephen Strange wouldn't exactly be an odd choice to be the one to set up the multiverse. As seen in the original Doctor Strange film, he quickly learned the ins and outs of the mystic arts and in just a short period of time was able to know master the use of the Eye of Agamotto aka the Time Stone so it isn't too farfetched to assume that it is him who will be causing all of the "madness". Now, I'm guessing curiosity will once again get the better of him just like in the first movie which in effect will come with some serious consequences. I mean, oftentimes, it's our heroes who are responsible for creating their own problems, right? It's an MCU thing after all.
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is eyeing a Spring 2022 release date.
