Doctor Strange 2: Reason Behind John Krasinski's Surprise Cameo Finally Explained

One of the highlights of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the appearance of John Krasinski as Earth-838's Reed Richards, which fulfilled years of fan casting. While it remains to be seen whether the A Quiet Place star will also play the role in the official MCU timeline in Earth-636, there have been questions about what exactly led to Marvel's decision to cast Krasinski to play the role for a portion of the film.

As reported by The Direct, in the audio commentary of the film, director Sam Raimi confirmed that Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige decided to cast Krasinski to play Reed Richards due to the fan casting and they know that they can "make that dream come true" since it is in a different universe.

"It’s so funny that Kevin [Feige] cast John [Krasinski] because the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be," Raimi said. "And because this is an alternate universe, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.’ I’ve always really enjoyed all of his performances.’"

Michael Waldron, who wrote the film, also shared how it was an honor for him to be the one to write Reed Richards' first appearance in the MCU since he is his favorite Marvel Comics character.

"Reed Richards is my favorite Marvel Comics character, so it was a real honor to get to write his first entry in the MCU. John’s such an amazing performer and such a great partner in bringing this role to life for the first time."

Producer Richie Palmer also chimed in and revealed that Reed Richards' costume was designed by Ryan Meinerding, the Head of Visual Department at Marvel Studios, and the portal that he entered through during his introduction was Doctor Doom's Time Platform.

"It’s exciting that costume designed by Ryan Meinerding, is a really special treat," Palmer said. "The detail of the teleportation device he uses to get into the scene is something we took from the comics, that’s Doctor Doom’s Time Platform."

Krasinski's MCU debut was met with delight from fans who have been longing to see him play the character along with his wife and actress Emily Blunt, who is being fancast to play Sue Storm. Now, all eyes are on whether Krasinski will continue playing the role in the main MCU timeline and it is very likely that we will find out the answers soon as the studio is developing their Fantastic Four film.
