Most of us still haven't recovered from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield crossing over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via Spider-Man: No Way Home and now, another major MCU casting is rumored to be coming our way. In case you haven't heard yet, Tom Cruise is reportedly set to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as a variant version of Tony Stark/Iron Man.

The rumor began swirling around the internet back in 2020 but it wasn't until earlier this year when the speculation regarding his involvement would reach unprecedented heights. Several photos allegedly from the set of the MCU sequel even surfaced online and while some of them have already been debunked, some fans are still under the impression that the Mission Impossible star will in fact fulfill his Iron Man destiny.

However, Cruise's Multiverse of Madness status just got a discouraging update. According to the oftentimes reliable tipster Grace Randolph, Tom Cruise's rumored Doctor Strange 2 role might be up in smoke. She didn't exactly go into detail about it but would later reveal that the Hollywood icon will "100%" become part of the MCU at some point, although his potential role wasn't mentioned.

With the Illuminati coming into play, it already seems like a no-brainer that we'll see Iron Man in Doctor Strange 2 especially given the fact that the character was an integral part of the Marvel faction in the comics. Of course, Marvel Studios could make some drastic changes to the group but omitting Stark from the famed society would be a huge mistake. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas on May 6, 2022.
