Longtime followers of the billion-dollar franchise are well aware that Cruise was the studio's original pick to play Iron Man in 2008 but negotiations ultimately fell flat.

When the second trailer for the Doctor Strange sequel dropped last February, many were convinced that Superior Iron Man made an appearance in the teaser and it's been a subject of debate within the fandom up to now.

However, the latest footage for the Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen film gives us a clearer image of the intriguing character and we can officially confirm that it is in fact Maria Rambeau's version of Captain Marvel. Check it out below:

The chances of Cruise appearing in Multiverse of Madness to finally fulfill his Iron Man destiny now appears to be slim but that's not to say that the action film icon isn't MCU-bound at all. It's worth noting that several sources, including Grace Randolph, reported that the actor is still set to appear in the Marvel universe but the specifics of his rumored role have yet to be disclosed.

Meanwhile, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hits cinemas on May 6, 2022.
